Financial Literacy:
Without a doubt, the economic recession that has plagued our country since 2008, has negatively impacted the majority of Americans. Specifically referring to Clark County, we currently have a 13.3 percent unemployment rate, the highest in the state. Additionally, 9.9 percent of the Clark County population lives beneath poverty level, just under the 11.3 percent statewide. It's important to volunteer with organizations that assist these community members by providing and organizing monetary and food donations.
But as the statistics indicate, it's just as important to address the roots of the problem for the purpose of future prevention. Thus, I, Sara Slayton, and my partner, Evan Klein, have organized a volunteer project to educate the community on money management and financial literacy, in hopes that such education would take steps to prevent another recession, which would in turn minimize the growing poverty level. We hope you can use the resources and information we have utilized throughout the project in promoting financial literacy within your community as well.
